African Space, leading specialists for high octane diving expeditions to South Africa has appointed underwater photography specialists Ocean Optics as their preferred equipment and training supplier.
African Space chose Ocean Optics because they felt the underwater photography company's expertise would provide their own clients with equipment and training tailored to the needs of photographing the sardine run. Many professional film makers and underwater photographer's consider the sardine run to be the natural world's greatest marine adventure. Every imaginable predator from seals, to dolphins, to sharks to great whales pursues the sardines along South Africa's coastline, forcing the fish into tight bait balls.
"African Space is putting their clients right in the centre of one of the worlds most spectacular wildlife events. Once in a lifetime photographic and video opportunities are a given. But the conditions are also extremely challenging for even highly experienced photographers. After detailed discussions with African Space, Ocean Optics is developing an underwater photography course specifically to help African Space clients return with the best possible images", explains Ocean Optics course co -designer Steve Warren. "We're working with our movie contacts at our base at Underwater Studios filming tank on building props to enable us to simulate bait balls and large predators. Hands on underwater photography training and practice in the UK prior to leaving for South Africa should pay dividends on location and result in much better images for African Spaces clients.' ".
