INON X2-GF-1 MRS Port System
The Panasonic GF-1 Micro Four Thirds camera is a true camera system that depends for its versatility and superior image quality on arange of interchangeable lenses developed by Panasonic and Leica. To compliment these lenses, the INON X2-GF-1 underwater camera housing has a modular port system, which allows you to manually focus the 45mm tele macro lens and change the focal length of zoom lenses. INON use their unique Magnetic Ring System for focusing and zooming. Developed over a decade ago for INON's 35mm SLR underwater Canon camera housings, the INON MRS lets you focus or zoom underwater just as you would on land using a normal SLR lens by simply twisting the barrel. This is quicker and easier for most people to use than using a side mounted control wheel used on most underwater camera housings. It also lets you support your camera naturally as you would on the surface by cupping your left hand under the port. So the INON X2-GF-1 is very stable and well balanced under the water. The INON MRS Base Port takes the INON MRS control ring. A special focus or zoom ring easily fits onto your Panasonic GF-1 Micro Four Thirds camera lens and mates magnetically with the INON MRS control ring. Your dedicated INON lens ports then simply screw into the INON X2 - GF-1 MRS Base Port.
INON X2 - GF-1 MRS Base Port Recommended For All Lenses (except the 8mm fisheye and 20mm)
The INON MRS Base Port screws securely into your INON X2-GF-1 underwater camera housing. A wide piston O-ring makes the seal. The O-ring is soft, enabling it to mould around small particles to reduce the risk of a flood. It's also bright yellow to make it easier to see hairs or other debris that could cause problems. The barrel is manufactured from lightweight but tough aluminium. INON dedicated flat and dome ports screw into the front of the INON MRS Base Port to accommodate standard, macro, wide-angle and fisheye lenses.
The INON MRS Port can be fitted with a rotating collar, which is used to manually focus or zoom your lenses. You only need one MRS Base Port and one focus/zoom collar to operate all currently supported Panasonic GF-1 lenses. The collar provides your INON X2- GF-1 underwater housing with the feel of a land camera and makes focusing and zooming fast, positive and instinctive. It also places your left hand in a position that naturally supports and stabilizes your underwater camera housing.
Each dedicated INON X2- GF-1 flat or dome port screws in turn into the INON X2- GF-1 and is again sealed by a chunky piston O-ring.
INON MRS X2-GF-1 Lens Gears
Each Panasonic and Leica lens for your Panasonic GF-1 requires a focus gear if you wish to focus a 45mm prime lens manually or a zoom gear if you want to be able to zoom underwater. This sits around your lens focus or zoom barrel and magnetic attraction is used to rotate this using the MRS focus/zoom collar. It's a very elegant and user-friendly design.
INON X2-GF-1 MRS Front Port Macro for 45mm Tele Macro Lens
The INON X2- GF-1 Front Port Macro is designed for the Panasonic 45mm tele -macro lens. The small glass optic reduces weight and makes accidental damage less likely. The glass is multi coated to maximise contrast and minimise ghosting and flare. 67mm filter threads allow INON UCL165M67 and UCL330M67 close up lenses to be used to increase magnification. INON UCLM67 close up lenses can be combined for higher magnification and can be fitted and removed underwater. You can also attach correction filters, such as UR PRO, for improved colours when shooting by natural light.
The INON X2- MRS Front Port Macro is used with the INON MRS Base Port. When fitted with a focus/zoom collar and manual focus gear you can switch from auto to manual focus under the water and focus by eye. This can be an advantage with shy creatures that are spooked by vibration from autofocus motors or if a subject is in shadow and won't tolerate a focusing light being shone on it. INON LE series video lights make superb focusing lights and can be fitted with red filters that are better tolerated by many animals, especially at night.
INON X2-GF-1 MRS Front Wide Port for 14-45mm Standard Zoom Lens
This is a dedicated flat port for the Panasonic 14-45mm standard zoom lens. The port is glass and multi coated to enhance contrast and minimise ghosting and reflections.
The INON X2- GF-1 MRS Base Port is used with the INON Front Wide Port and an INON zoom gear to let you operate your zoom through the INON X2 - Panasonic GF-1 underwater camera housing.
INON X2- GF-1 MRS Front Dome 115 for 7 -14mm Super Wide - Angle Lens
This is a dedicated dome port designed to perfectly match the optics of the Panasonic 7-14mm super wide - angle zoom. The port is glass, yet lightweight because of its compact dimensions. The glass is multi coated to minimise flare and ghosting ( a common problem when using wide-angle lenses under the water) and to maintain contrast. A hood is included to help protect the lens element and further reduce ghosting and flare.
The INON MRS Base Port is used with the INON X2-GF-1 MRS Front Dome 115 and an INON MRS zoom gear to allow you to zoom with the Panasonic 7- 14mm super wide-angle zoom lens.
Non MRS Ports for 20mm Pancake Lens and 45mm Macro Lens
You don't necessarily have to use the MRS port system. The 20mm Pancake lens has an ultra compact dedicated INON X2 - Panasonic GF-1 port. The 45mm tele macro lens can also be used with the INON Pancake port by adding an INON X2- GF-1 36mm extension ring. This takes the place of the MRS Base Port. If you use an extension ring instead of the MRS Base Port you will not be able to have the choice of manually focusing your Panasonic 45mm tele - macro lens. If you want to use Panasonic zoom lenses you will still need to add the INON X2-GF-1 MRS Base Port if you want to use the zoom function. Most INON X2- GF-1 owners will be better served by using the MRS system , but please give Mark or Steve a call to talk through the pros and cons if you are unsure about your best choice. They'll be happy to advise.
INON X2- GF-1 MRS Pancake Port for 20mm Lens
The INON X2 - GF-1 Pancake Port is specifically designed for the Panasonic GF-1 20mm lens. The small optical glass port reduces weight and minimises the risk of damage. Multi coating reduces flare and ghosting and maximises contrast. 67mm filter threads allow you to shoot close ups by adding INON UCL165M67 and INON UCL330M67 close up lenses to your INON X2-GF-1 underwater camera system. INON UCLM67 close up lenses can be combined for greater magnification. These can be fitted and removed during your dive. For improved colour correction when shooting using natural light, UR PRO colour correction filters can be attached.
45mm Tele Macro Lens
Use the INON X2-GF-1 for autofocus or fixed focus shooting only with the 45mm tele - macro lens by combining the INON X2- GF-1 Pancake Port and an INON X2- GF-1 36mm extension ring. You cannot focus manually. You can use INON UCLM67 465 and 330 close up lenses in any combination for higher magnification shooting or add UR PRO colour correction filters.
Fisheye Ports for Panasonic 8mm lens
INON offer a choice of two ports for the INON X2-GF-1 underwater camera system for the Panasonic 8mm full frame fisheye lens.
INON X2-GF-1 115 Port for 8mm Fisheye Lens
This is an optical glass port for the INON X2-GF-1 underwater camera housing when using the Panasonic 8mm full frame fisheye lens. The port is multi coated to retain contrast and reduce ghosting and flare. A protective hood is included to further reduce flare and minimise the risk of scratching your port.
This is a compact dome and is easier to get into tight areas, such as under overhangs or inside wrecks or caves. It's an excellent port for close quarters close focus wide-angle photography.
INON X2- GF-1 Dome Port II for 8mm Fisheye Lens
Constructed from highest quality optical glass and multi coated to reduce flare and retain contrast, this 170mm diameter dome port is especially well suited to split level underwater photography. A protective hood is included to help prevent damage and further reduce ghosting. The INON port system for the INON X2 - GF-1 housing for the Panasonic GF-1 Micro Four Thirds camera reinforces that INON regards this system as a real alternative to a conventional sized professional SLR. The quality of the Panasonic Micro Four Thirds sensor and outstanding quality of the matched Panasonic and Leica lenses demands the best possible optical standards of your underwater camera ports. These, after all, are the last lens elements in an expensive chain between your Panasonic GF- 1 underwater camera and a subject that may have cost much time and many thousands of pounds to encounter.
