Equipment Servicing, Repairs and Insurance

Most underwater photographic equipment requires routine servicing from time to time if it is to continue to perform flawlessly. And, inevitably, some equipment will also need repairing given the tough conditions under which it is commonly used.At Ocean Optics we have, over the years, reduced the spread of products that we offer in order to have a range that is as reliable as possible. We've made our mistakes in the past (we've been going for thirty years, so we were bound to get it wrong at some point). Today the equipment we offer is unquestionably some of the finest there is. None the less, problems can still occur with even the best kit... Anything that we have supplied to you that is problematic and is within the guarantee period should be returned to us. We prefer to observe the spirit of guarantees and not the letter of the law. So there is leeway. If you are an Optics client we will always try to solve your problems amicably (you won't find any terms and conditions at Optics as we've never needed them) and can often provide loan equipment in an emergency. We do not get involved with guarantee repairs or replacement of equipment that wasn't purchased from us or one of our INON UK agents. This must be returned to your original dealer if you wish to make a claim within the guarantee period.

Ocean Optics Products - Subal and INON

Ocean Optics provides full service and repair support for Subal and INON equipment. Work is normally guaranteed for twelve months for Subal equipment purchased through us and twelve months for INON equipment purchased through us or our INON UK agents. Please allow three to four weeks turnaround time. Subal or INON equipment purchased elsewhere is guaranteed for three months. If you send items to us, please ensure they are adequately insured and on a signed for service. Items from outside the EU can attract import duty and VAT and you'll need to pre pay this unless you've made prior arrangements with Steve or Mark. Refused estimates incur a £35.00 handling charge, plus return shipping if we have to post your equipment back to you. If your underwater camera equipment is old or an E Bay bargain, call Steve (he's quite old and knows vintage kit best - he can often tell you if it is likely to be worth servicing at all - it often isn't...) see also Subal Owners service

Digital Compact Housings

Our experience of housings designed for compacts and sold by camera manufacturers is that repairs are not readily available. Nor is routine servicing, although the life on this type of housing seems to be at least five years. It's a disposable age and however annoying this is, that's the deal you accept when you buy the kit. In reality this equipment now costs so little to purchase that paying a technician to work on it would probably outweigh the replacement costs.

But don't give up hope. If you have a problem we can sometimes find a solution. Give us a call anyway.

Nexus

We can service and repair Nexus housings. However turnaround may be a little slower than for other lines due to delays in acquiring spares. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

Subtronic

With regret, Ocean Optics no longer trades with Subtronic. We apologise to Subtronic owners. Sadly, we had some issues over aftersales that could not be reconciled. Subtronic strobes should be returned to Subtronic directly. www.subtronic.de

Nikonos

We no longer work on Nikonos equipment. Nikon ceased production of the last Nik in 2001 and demand for servicing is now so low that it isn't economic to maintain adequate spare parts.

Sea and Sea

Ocean Optics can provide servicing and repairs for many Sea and Sea items.

Insurance

We strongly recommend that you contact Divemaster if you wish to insure your underwater camera equipment. We have always found them to be very fair in dealing with claims. www.dive-master.net

Insurance Quotes

If the worst has happened and your precious underwater camera is soaked, battered or lost, we will happily provide you with a free quote for your insurance company, provided the equipment was originally purchased from us or , in the case of INON equipment , an official INON UK dealer. We can quote for equipment bought elsewhere, but make a £45.00 cover charge for doing so. We do not issue quotes without seeing the equipment for ourselves. Quotes will normally be valid for 30 days. Some insurance companies (not Divemaster) are a pain in the arse. So if we have to requote, we'll make an additional charge of £45.00 for each subsequent quote. This charge will always be waived if your equipment came from us or is for INON equipment bought from one of our INON Uk dealers in the first place.
